Description
Analgin (Metamizole sodium) is an antipyretic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory medication available in 500mg tablets. It's used to treat various pain conditions including joint pain, headaches, menstrual cramps, neuralgia, postoperative pain, and cancer-related pain. It's also effective for inflammatory conditions and fever associated with infections.
The drug works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity, reducing prostaglandin formation, and blocking pain impulses. Effects begin within 20-40 minutes, peaking at 2 hours. After oral administration, it's rapidly absorbed and metabolized into active compounds that are excreted in urine and breast milk.
Contraindications include allergies to components, bone marrow disorders, severe liver/kidney impairment, asthma, hypotension, and G6PD deficiency. Not recommended for pregnant/nursing women or children under 3 without medical supervision.
Potential side effects range from dizziness and nausea to serious conditions like agranulocytosis, kidney damage, and severe allergic reactions. Long-term use requires monitoring of blood counts and organ function.
Precautions include avoiding prolonged use due to bone marrow toxicity, caution in kidney disease patients, and alcohol avoidance. Not suitable for undiagnosed abdominal pain. Requires medical supervision for cardiovascular patients.
Take tablets whole after meals. Adult dosage is 250-500mg 2-3 times daily (max 3g/day). Pediatric dosage is 5-10mg/kg divided into 2-3 doses. Overdose symptoms include hypothermia and organ failure, requiring immediate medical intervention.
